Katie Adams completed her master of arts degree in educational psychology at the University of Minnesota with emphases in counseling and student personnel psychology. Prior to joining Hamline in 2000, she taught Spanish and worked as an advisor in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, downhill skiing, and working out.

Jason Jacobson completed his master of education degree in higher education administration at Suffolk University. Prior to joining Hamline, he worked as an advisor and administrator in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. When not at Hamline, Jason enjoys spending time with his partner, going to 'the lake', DDR2 on Wii, reading, eating out, beating his friends at Farkle, and playing with his pugs, Stella and Buffy.

Mike earned his master of arts in English from Iowa State University.  Prior to coming to Hamline he worked for four years as an advisor in the Student Support Services Program at Iowa State.  Mike enjoys spending his free time with his wife and young son, playing with his Golden Retriever, and relaxing at his cabin during the summer months.

Sandra Immerman received her bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She joined Hamline in the summer of 2006. Her spare time is spent with her husband and young daughter. You'll also find Sandra with her nose in a book or stirring up something divine in the kitchen.

Lisa earned her Ph.D. in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Sociology from the University of Minnesota. Lisa comes to Hamline from the University of Minnesota where she worked as the Coordinator of Academic Skills Programs within the Gopher athletic department. In her spare time Nordeen loves to participate in sports. She played two years of Women's Professional Football with the Minnesota Vixen and continues to participate in rec-league basketball and softball. In addition to sports, Lisa enjoys reading, watching reality TV, and traveling with her partner, Kimberly.

Purpose

Our purpose is to enrich students’ academic lives by offering accurate and timely academic advising, writing center and tutoring consultations, and academic skills assistance. We seek to empower students to make effective educational choices based on their multidimensional and diverse life and vocational goals.

Goals

  • To help students make the most of their academic careers to gain a well-rounded liberal arts education
  • To help reinforce students’ self-direction and decision-making skills
  • To help students develop educational plans and to clarify career and life goals
  • To help under-prepared students gain the skills needed to succeed in college
