Juliet Patterson’s
The Truant Lover, was a selected by Jean Valentine as the 2004 winner of the Nightboat Poetry Prize and was a finalist for a 2007 Lambda Literary Award. Her poems have appeared in numerous magazines including 26, American Letters & Commentary, Indiana Review, Knockout, New Orleans Review, Pebble Lake Review, Redivider, Swerve, Water~Stone Review, and Verse. Her work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and among her awards are a 2009 fellowship from the Minnesota State Arts Board, a 2004 SASE/Jerome grant, and a 2004 fellowship with the Institute for Community and Cultural.

In addition to her work at Hamline University, Juliet also teaches at the College of Saint Catherine and the Loft Literary Center. An active participant in community-based art projects and service, she has also worked as an educator with the Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights, United Cambodian Association of Minnesota, Whittier International School, the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. She currently volunteers for the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society and lives in Minneapolis near the west bank of the Mississippi and the Great River Road that stretches from Canada to the Gulf. She recently completed certification in Permaculture Design and will soon be working as a volunteer with some local urban farm projects.
