Professional Development for Teachers of Adults

Because teaching adults is different from teaching children, educators who work with adults need training and resources that are applicable specifically to adult education.

Hamline's Center for Second Language Teaching and Learning is known for its faculty expertise in adult and ESL teacher education.  At Hamline you will find the following:

• Certificate Program for Teachers of Adult ESL: Focused on adult English language learners, this four-course series examines literacy, oral skills, course design, and assessment.

• TEFL Certificate Program: Now in its 17th year, the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate Program prepares individuals to teach English to adults overseas and in community-based and private programs in the US.

• ATLAS Program: Launched in 2007, ATLAS provides best practice resources and professional development for Adult Basic Education (ABE) teachers, staff and administrators across the state.
