- Undergraduate students receive an average financial aid package of $40K
To be eligible for federal aid, you need to complete the FAFSA. View the required documents, deadlines, and other steps needed to apply for financial aid using the "Apply for the FAFSA" box below.
Changes to timelines for 2024
Why are financial aid awards delayed this year?
The financial aid packaging timeline has been impacted by delays in delivering financial aid information to colleges by the U.S. Department of Education due to necessary updates to the federal processing system. These updates are crucial to ensure that students receive the most accurate and up-to-date financial aid awards possible.
What does this mean for you?
This delay affected all institutions waiting for FAFSA data. The U.S. Department of Education is now delivering information to schools and processing new FAFSA forms as they receive them.
- We encourage you to submit your 2024-2025 FAFSA as soon as possible if you have not already done so. This will ensure your information is processed quickly once Hamline has received your data.
- If you have completed your 2024-2025 FAFSA and it has been accepted by the federal government, you do not need to do anything further at this time. The Hamline Financial Aid Office is packaging offers as quickly as possible.
- If you have been notified that you must make a correction to your FAFSA or if you need to add Hamline as a receiving school for your data, student-initiated corrections are now available. Students can make corrections on StudentAid.gov, and the entire process should only take a few minutes for most applicants.

What is financial aid?
Through a combination of undergraduate financial aid opportunities, we make it possible for many first-year and transfer students from diverse backgrounds to get the education they need to succeed in their chosen fields.
Financial aid packages are made up of several components:
- Hamline scholarships and grants
- Outside scholarships and grants
- Federal scholarships and grants
- Student employment (Work-study)
- State scholarships and grants
- Loans
Scholarships and grants are forms of financial aid that you do not have to pay back. A variety of loans are available specifically for higher education costs. If you qualify, you can work on campus.
