Dr. Linnette Werner, Associate Dean and Director of the academic leadership programs at Hamline, recently completed co-editing and contributing to a seminal issue of the journal New Directions in Student Leadership, published by Wiley March 11, 2024. The special issue focuses on emergent pedagogies within leadership studies and development programs and highlights Dr. Werner's research of the last decade related to liberatory leadership development practices. Dr. Werner and co-editor, Dr. John Weng (University of San Diego) have brought together a wide range of scholars and practitioners in the field of leadership to shed light on the importance of emergent pedagogies as a way of meeting the changing needs of diverse 21st century learners. The issue, titled "Intentional Emergence as a Liberatory Approach in Leadership Education," offers articles that range from theoretical frameworks to practical strategies for going beyond the sage-on-the-stage style teaching in order to create more engaging, inclusive, and effective teaching and learning spaces. The volume is highly translatable to teaching in higher education across many disciplines.
