Special-interest communities

Hamline's special-interest communities offer an opportunity for students to live with like-minded individuals and participate in special programming surrounding a theme. Residents living in special-interest communities create and adhere to standards and guidelines for the community and work in collaboration with their resident assistants (RAs) and staff members to create diverse programming. We offer four special-interest communities: Global Piper Community, Honors Community, and LGBT and Social Justice Community.

  • Global Piper Community

The Global Piper Community is a special-interest community offered to all domestic students who want to study abroad and/or major in Global Studies. Students who live in the Global Piper Community will be paired with an international student as a roommate. The community has an RA dedicated to help those students live and learn with each other and to achieve academic success. Global Mentors will provide educational and social programming for these residents as well. The Global Piper Community is in Osborn Hall.

  • Honors Community

The Honors Community is a special-interest community offered to students registered in the Early University Honors Program. Students who live in the Honors Community will have an area with a dedicated student lounge. Staff will be available on the floor to help students achieve academic success and RAs will provide educational and social programming for all residents. The only requirement to live in the Honors Community is to be registered with the Early University Honors Program. The Honors Community is in Osborn Hall.

  • LGBT and Social Justice Community

The LGBT and Social Justice Community is a special-interest community for students interested in learning about issues of social justice that includes women's rights, the LGBT community, race, and other areas of diversity such as religion, class, and internationalism. Students living in this community commit to furthering their knowledge of social justice. This community is all-gender, meaning residents can select a roommate of any gender. The LGBT and Social Justice Community is in Drew Hall.

This campus is very friendly for queer people no matter where you live. And we have a floor on Drew just for queer students. It's been a welcoming space for queer students.
