Bruce Bolon will hold a composition recital on Wednesday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Sundin Music Hall. The recital will include much of the music Bruce has written since his last one in 2016. The first third of the recital will be small ensemble pieces in a variety of styles (jazz, latin, etc.), with a couple of them featuring my wife, Yung-Tsi, dancing. These will be followed by two pieces performed by a live, professional, full orchestra and finally two for both orchestra and choir. The first choral piece is dedicated to Bruce's friend Roger Appeldorn '57, who passed away in 2022.
The finale, "Dust Angels", in three movements, is in collaboration with Bruce's friend Wang Ping, using poetry from her book "Ten Thousand Waves." The event will be free and open to the public. Suggested donations can go to a fund set up to help cover education expenses for the daughters of Bruce's friend and Hamline chemistry department colleague Julia Saunders, who passed away in 2020.
