Pursue a degree at Hamline using your military benefits

Veterans and military students are an important part of Hamline's community, and we’re here to provide you and your family with additional guidance as you pursue higher education. That's why Hamline is ranked as the top-ranked "Best for Veterans" Regional University in Minnesota and 5th in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report.

In collaboration with the federal government and the state of Minnesota, we’re able to give eligible applicants access to financial aid to make college even more affordable. Whether you’re a veteran or service member, a spouse, or a dependent, we’ll help you discover all your college financial aid options. Visit our Military Student Resource Center for more information on how we can support your educational goals.

Have you already applied for benefits through the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)?

If you’ve completed an application for one of the VA educational benefits listed below, you’ll need Hamline to certify your enrollment. Visit our Military Student Resource Center for more detailed steps on that process.

VA educational benefits and financial aid options

Use your VA educational benefits to cut tuition costs for yourself or qualified family members. In addition to the Minnesota GI Bill® and Federal GI Bill®, we also support the Yellow Ribbon Program and Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship Program. Read below and discover which veterans and military financial aid options work best for you.

Minnesota GI Bill®

The Minnesota GI Bill® provides financial assistance to Minnesota veterans and service members, as well as eligible spouses and children of deceased or severely disabled eligible Minnesota veterans. Here’s how much aid you can expect to receive:

  • Full-time students may be eligible for up to $5,000 per year, to a lifetime maximum of $15,000
  • Part-time students may be eligible for a prorated amount based on the number of credits taken

For more information, call the Minnesota Office of Higher Education at 651-642-0675 or contact a regional representative of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.

Federal GI Bill®

The Federal GI Bill® allows veterans across the country to succeed in higher education. For approved students, the VA and Hamline will jointly cover all tuition costs.

Yellow Ribbon Program

The Yellow Ribbon Program is available to students with 100% eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) who complete an application.

At Hamline, we’re proud to offer unlimited packages under this program for undergraduate students and graduate students in the School of Business, School of Education, and College of Liberal Arts.

Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship Program

The Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship Program provides eligible applicants with up to $5,000 per year, which is renewable for a maximum of three additional years.

Financial aid by student type

Beyond grants and scholarships and loans, we also offer additional financial aid and funding opportunities for different types of students.
