Surviving and Thriving in Predominately White Spaces: Mental Health Challenges and Best Practices for People of Color

Thursday, April 6, 2023, 111 Anderson Center, 4:00-5:30 p.m.

This training is designed to support people of color in predominantly white spaces. The goal is to educate participants on the unique mental health challenges and practices for people of color in predominantly white spaces. The training will cover topics such as the impact of racism and oppression on mental health, common mental health issues experienced by people of color, and practical tools and skills to help manage mental health in a predominantly white space. Participants will learn how to identify and address common mental health issues, create supportive healing spaces, and build resilience and self-care practices. Additionally, participants will engage in interactive activities to help them better understand the mental health challenges they may face in a predominantly white space and how to build a better support system to foster their wellness. The training will provide a safe and affirming environment to explore these topics, encouraging participants to share their experiences and talk openly about their mental health. Our facilitator will be Brandon Jones, the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health Executive Director and Consultant.
