MLK Day Event Is January 16

Join members of the Hamline University and neighboring communities for a celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life on the national holiday that honors his life, leadership and pursuit of racial and social justice. We also recognize Monday, January 16th as the 8th Annual National Day of Racial Healing which originated through the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

This year's program will be focused on Dr. King's powerful Nobel Lecture speech "The Quest for Peace & Justice" and will feature remarks from Acting/Interim President Kathleen Murray, reflections from Prof. Matt Sumera, Director of the Center for Academic Success and Achievement Kate Johnston, Chaplin Kelly Figueroa-Ray, Elmo Glass (Student), a reading of Dr. King's work by Brandy Sanchez Dominguez (Student), and the charge to the University Community delivered by Kamaria Williams (President of the Black Student Collective).

Rounding out the program will be musical selections from special guest, Jovonta Patton as well as the announcement of the 2022 Beloved Community Awards. Rounding out the program will be Twin Cities special guest musician Jovonta Pattona five-time #1 chart-topping Billboard recording artist, composer, producer, and entrepreneur.   This event is sponsored by the Hedgeman Center for Student Diversity Initiatives and Programs.
