New York (NMUN) Team application requirements

Each spring, Hamline University sends a team of students to the Model United Nations Conference in New York City. The NMUN is the largest intercollegiate conference in the United States, with approximately 4,000 students representing teams from universities and colleges all over North America, Latin America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Each year, Hamline selects approximately 10 students for its delegation. This selection process is competitive and requires a written application and interview. Hamline University students from any major or at any level are welcome to apply.  The requirements for the application and the team are:

  • Attend Model UN information sessions and activities
  • Fill out Model UN application/essay questions attached to this letter or from our Hamline University Model UN website
  • Include copies of transcripts with application (if first year student, please submit high school transcripts; if international exchange student, letter of recommendation from home campus or copy of transcript)
  • Include Faculty Recommendation form
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.0 or better
  • Complete an interview after submitting application (you will be contacted)
  • After acceptance, take GLOB 3650/PSCI 3600 Model UN
  • All team members, after acceptance, must submit trip fee
  • All team members, after acceptance, must participate in all required team activities

Once the team is determined, all students will be required to sign a contract prior to trip departure regarding responsibilities and expectations during the trip. Also, if at any time students do not attend all required conference and trip activities in New York, or if they are dismissed from the team, they will be required to reimburse Hamline University.

Students will be charged a trip fee for attending the conference this year. This fee goes towards remaining conference. Students are individually expected to pay food, ground transportation, and entertainment expenses while in New York. All other hotel, conference registration and fees, and airfare will be paid by Hamline University through our Academic Model UN Budget.  The trip fee will be collected in November after the announcement of team members has been made.
