David Milton
David Milton is excited to join Hamline as a Professor of Practice in Accounting and Finance. He is a certified public accountant with over 15 years of executive leadership experience across corporate, nonprofit, government, academic, and social (self-funded) enterprises. He has broad experience in mergers and acquisitions, business valuation, planning, financing, raising capital, and organizational governance.
He has been an adjunct professor since 2007, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in accounting, finance, risk management, and financial markets. David has an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from DePaul University. He is also completing his first year of coursework in the Doctor of Business Administration program at St. Mary’s University – Minneapolis. Research interests include private company valuation, governance, and behavioral economics.
David is passionate about education, personal transformation, resilience, and community building. A devoted husband, father of three, and grandfather of five, he enjoys family time, reading, cycling through the metro bike trails, and playing at the game of golf.
I ascribe to Fred “Mr.” Rogers’s philosophy: “…the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and hearts and be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.” In the classroom, I look for ways to nudge students to believe in themselves. We all become stronger when everyone leans into the discussions.
