First-Year Student Application

Decide which application is best for you. The Hamline Application is available online and is sent immediately to our admission office. If you’re applying to multiple schools, you may want to use the Common App to save time. Remember, there’s no application fee to apply to Hamline! 

A few things you’ll need:

• Information about your high school coursework, grades, and class rank
• Contact information for your high school counselor and any recommenders you are using
• A list of your honors and awards
• A list of your activities
• Written essay(s), depending on which application you choose
   

Official high school transcript

Submit your official high school transcript, including a list of senior courses. Transcripts must be sent directly from your school.

Test scores (optional)

Hamline is proudly test-optional because we believe students are more than their test scores. We’ll evaluate your application holistically, whether or not you submit standardized test scores from the SAT or ACT. (If you opt for test-optional admission, you’ll still be eligible for merit scholarships.)

Your official high school transcript may already include your test scores. If not, send your scores directly from the College Board or the ACT using Hamline’s school codes:

• SAT: 6265
• ACT: 2114

Did you know? You may be able to send your scores for free with an SAT fee waiver. 

Recommendation letter (optional)

Letters of recommendation are encouraged, but not required. If you choose to submit a recommendation, it must come directly from the counselor, teacher, or advisor. All letters can be submitted through the electronic delivery method in place at your school or emailed to admission@hamline.edu. We recommend asking them to describe your academic achievements, leadership record, and potential for success in college.

If you’re using the Common App, your counselor should submit the counselor recommendation through that program. If needed, you can download a teacher recommendation form from the Paper Forms section below.

Double-check the admission deadlines at the top of this page to make sure you submit your application in time.

We recommend talking to both your school counselor and parents or family to decide when to apply. Early Action (EA) is nonbinding, so there’s no commitment to attend and you can apply to other colleges. 

To confirm enrollment, admitted applicants must submit a $400 deposit that credits toward tuition. Deposits need to be postmarked by May 1, the National Reply Date. If you’ll be joining Hamline soon, welcome! Take a look through our admitted students page to see what’s ahead.
