In collaboration with the University of Iowa, Dr. Erik Asp was awarded a two-year, $25,000 Neurology R01 Pilot Grant for his project entitled "Misinformation Credulity Phenotype across the Adult Lifespan and in ADRD."
Fake news, false advertising, and misinformation can produce detrimental political, financial, and medial decisions in persons of all ages. Who is the most "at risk" to believe misinformation? The objective of Dr. Asp's and colleagues research is to develop a /risk-factors misinformation credulity/ model based on cognitive, demographic, social, and environmental variables. Establishment of this model will allow a person's variables to predict their likelihood to believe misinformation. A direct, immediate positive impact of this project is the ability to identify persons most vulnerable to misinformation and to provide accurate instructions for caregivers to assume financial decision making of these "high risk" individuals. The findings will also inform novel interventions and public policy to protect vulnerable individuals.
