New Guidance on Transmission of Viral Infections

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released guidance regarding management of respiratory viral illnesses, including COVID-19, influenza and RSV.  The Minnesota Department of Health supports these recommendations.  Hamline policies for COVID have been updated to align with the CDC recommendations.

  • If you have symptoms of a respiratory viral illness, the CDC Respiratory Virus Guidelines recommend that you stay home until the following:
    • You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, BOTH are true:
  • Your symptoms are getting better overall, AND
  • You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
  • When you go back to your normal activities, take added precautions over the next 5 days, which includes masking indoors.
  • Vaccines are still one of the best ways to protect yourself and others.  Therefore, Hamline still strongly recommends staying up to date with the latest COVID vaccine.
  • Hamline University will continue to encourage and support anyone who is wearing a mask on campus.
  • Students, faculty and staff are no longer required to fill out the positive COVID self-report form.
  • Students with respiratory viral illnesses will be asked to isolate in-place, which means in a residence hall, community housing or a private home.
  • The covid@hamline.edu email will no longer be active.  Students can find information about upper respiratory viruses, including COVID, on the Counseling & Health Services website or by calling C&HS at 651-523-2204.

Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to create a healthy campus here at Hamline.
