Current MAESL student Kenzie Howden was recently awarded one of the three inaugural Middletown (CT) Pride Scholarships. According to the organization's website, the scholarship program was created "to foster opportunities for a brighter future—one where every LGBTQIA2S+ individual can chase their dreams without barriers."
Kenzie is currently conducting their MA capstone research with a focus on the vicarious trauma that teachers of adult learners experience. In addition to their outstanding record as a scholar, Kenzie has been involved in teaching and advocacy in the community in a variety of settings. They have taught ESL to adult learners, served as a queer peer sex health educator, and advocated for pediatric transgender patients.
