Update from the June 3, 2024 Presidential Search Committee Meeting

With Dr. Kathleen Murray’s acting/interim presidency scheduled to end on June 30, 2025, the Board of Trustees, with constituency input, has formed a Presidential Search Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee to identify and recommend at least two candidates for the next president of Hamline University to the Board of Trustees.

The committee consists of trustees, faculty, staff and students. Our initial meeting for orientation and team building was held on June 3. One of our “get to know you” questions was “what makes you Piper Proud” and the stories of why folks are invested in Hamline were moving. Please know this is a group of people highly invested in the future and well-being of Hamline and fully committed to serving you well in the search for the next president.

Other agenda items included review of the committee charge; the search process and timetable; and presentations on the role of a university president; the financial status of Hamline; and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) best practices as we begin our process.

The committee has engaged Academic Search to assist with building the presidential profile, developing the candidate pool and screening potential candidates. The first step in this process will be to hold campus-wide listening sessions, ensuring that all stakeholders can provide input to what is most needed in Hamline University’s next president. As dates are confirmed, constituent groups will receive invitations to participate. The goal is to complete the listening sessions in late June and then develop and post the position profile by mid- to late-July.

The university has created a webpage, hamline.edu/presidentialsearch, that will house information about the search process, as well as the position profile once it has been finalized. Also, after each search team meeting, an update will be posted there and also in the next edition of Inside Hamline.

The goal is to forward at least two finalist candidates to the Board of Trustees by the end of December 2024 with the new president’s term to begin July 1, 2025.

Here is how you can help us find our next president:

  • Visit hamline.edu/presidentialsearch to stay updated about the progress of the search. Feel free to provide input directly to your representatives on the search committee. Please know that, in order to attract candidates who may not necessarily be actively looking for a new role or position and allow for robust discussion in the search process, we all have signed confidentiality agreements so that information about the candidates and our deliberations are not shared. While we are not in a position to share confidential information, we are able to receive input from you. Please do reach out with your input as the search progresses.

  • Once the position profile is posted, if you know of potential candidates who might be a great fit, please pass on the position profile to them.

  • If you do have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to raise them. Please direct them to Cindy Gregorson ’81, Chair of the Search Committee at presidentialsearch@hamline.edu.

Thank you for your investment in Hamline University.
