Hamline recognized for excellent student voter turnout during 2022 midterm elections

On Sept. 10, the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge recognized Hamline University for its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections.

Hamline earned a Platinum Seal for its 2022 campus voting rate, indicating 50-59% campus voter turnout. Hamline was also included on ALL IN’s inaugural list of Top Campuses by 2022 Voter Turnout for 4-year Private Institutions, reflecting Hamline’s commitment to ensuring that nonpartisan democratic engagement is a defining feature of campus life.

“Hamline University is very proud of this recognition and the commitment of our student-voters and Hamline Votes team,” said Nur Mood, associate director of Wesley Center and Hamline Votes leader. “This designation and our excellent 2022 voter turnout will further motivate the Hamline Votes team to register more voters and achieve even higher turnout in the upcoming general election. We can definitely keep this momentum going!”

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement. Hamline was recognized alongside more than 500 campuses using data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement out of Tufts University, which found that colleges and universities had the second-highest voter turnout among students in a midterm election since NSLVE began measuring this data.

In 2022, Max Ganske ’26 was recognized as part of the 2023 ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll for his outstanding work in advancing nonpartisan democratic engagement on campus. Ganske was among 175 students recognized for their voter registration, education and turnout efforts during the historic 2022 midterm election season.

“Ahead of the 2024 elections, ALL IN campuses are ready to build on the momentum from 2022 to ensure their communities are ready to make an even bigger impact this fall,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “ALL IN is proud to celebrate and honor top-performing campuses, like Hamline University, who demonstrate that nonpartisan student voter engagement is possible and effective.”

More than 1,060 institutions enrolling more than 10 million students participate in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, which supports colleges and universities in achieving excellence in nonpartisan student voter engagement.
