Professor Lifeng Dong, the Emma K. and Carl R. N. Malmstrom Endowed Chair in Physics, recently published research in collaboration with Qingdao University of Science and Technology. Their study, titled "Density Functional Theory Study of the Relationship between N-Dopants and Vacancy Defects on Graphene Quantum Dots for Oxygen Reduction Electrocatalysis," was featured as a cover article in ACS Applied Nano Materials. The team discovered that introducing specific defects and nitrogen atoms to graphene quantum dots (GQDs) significantly enhances their performance in critical reactions for renewable energy technologies, such as fuel cells and batteries. This advancement could lead to more efficient energy storage and conversion devices, supporting the development of clean energy solutions.
