Hamline recognized for excellent student voter engagement by ALL IN Democracy Challenge

Hamline University was recognized this month by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. The ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting recognizes colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation.

This designation was achieved in large part by the Hamline Votes Campaign, coordinated by Nur Mood, Associate Director of the Wesley Center, and chaired by University Chaplain Kelly Kelly Figueroa-Ray.

“I’m enormously proud of this all-campus effort, led by Nur Mood and Kelly Figueroa-Ray, to get out the vote,” Acting/Interim President Kathleen Murray said. “Voting is a critically important civic responsibility and an enormous privilege that we should never take for granted.”

Hamline joins a group of 471 colleges and universities recognized by ALL IN for completing four core actions:

  • Participating in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge
  • Sharing 2022 NSLVE Reports with campus voting data with ALL IN
  • Developing and submitting a 2024 democratic engagement action plan with ALL IN
  • Having a current signatory to ALL IN’s Higher Education Presidents’ Commitment to Full Student Voter Participation.

In September, ALL IN recognized Hamline for its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections. Hamline earned a Platinum Seal for its 2022 campus voting rate, indicating 50-59% campus voter turnout. Hamline was also included on ALL IN’s inaugural list of Top Campuses by 2022 Voter Turnout for 4-year Private Institutions, reflecting Hamline’s commitment to ensuring that nonpartisan democratic engagement is a defining feature of campus life.

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement. Campuses that join the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge complete a set of action items, with the support of ALL IN staff, to institutionalize nonpartisan civic learning and voter participation on their campus.
