Bridget Jacques-Fricke, Associate Professor in the Biology department and Neuroscience program, published an article in a special issue of Developmental Biology, Teaching Developmental Biology for Social Change. The article, “Teaching students to effectively evaluate scientific evidence and advocate for research in the context of autism spectrum disorder and the neurodiversity movement” describes two activities that Dr. Jacques-Fricke designed, implemented, and assessed in her Neurological Diseases, Disorders, and Society course. These activities address real world applications and implications of scientific research and advocacy by engaging students in analyzing scientific practices, recognizing misinformation, and demonstrating how students can become advocates for high-quality scientific research.
