2025 Social Justice Symposium (April 1 to 4)

Mark your calendars for the 2025 Social Justice Symposium (SJS) on April 1 through 4! Each year, the SJS honors a late social justice activist, movement, or organization. This year, we'll recognize the life and legacy of Shirley Chisholm (1924--2005), the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black woman to run for president from a major political party.

We’re kicking off the symposium with a keynote address by Seena Hodges, who will explore Chisholm’s impact on politics, leadership, and social justice. Join us on Tuesday, April 1, 12:30–1:30 p.m. at the Klas Center (Kay Fredericks Room).

Throughout the week, additional programs will highlight Chisholm’s contributions, including a viewing of Shirley, the 2024 film starring Regina King, which brings her remarkable story to life.

We hope to see you at the SJS events in April! For the full schedule, visit the Hedgeman Center webpage.
