Smith to Serve as Commencement Speaker

It is my distinct pleasure to announce that our undergraduate commencement address will be delivered by The Honorable Tina Smith, United States Senator for Minnesota.

Senator Smith has served in the U.S. Senate since 2018, following her tenure as Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota from 2015-2018 under Governor Mark Dayton.

Currently, Senator Smith serves as the ranking member on two Senate subcommittees: Housing, Transportation, and Community Development, and Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth. She also currently serves on four Senate Committees: Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; Finance; and Indian Affairs. She has announced she will not seek re-election for a second full term in 2026.

There is much we can learn from Senator Smith. With a long history of principled and passionate advocacy, she exemplifies public service marked by integrity, courage, and a deep commitment to the common good. In today’s complex and often challenging times, her voice is one of clarity, purpose, and hope.

I look forward to hearing her reflections and trust that you share my anticipation for what promises to be an inspiring address.

Sincerely,
Kathleen M. Murray
Acting/Interim President
