John Wesley Leadership and Service Award
The John Wesley Leadership and Service Award is given each year by the Board of Trustees to recognize and reward those students who best demonstrate the commitment to leadership and service that lies at the heart of all that Hamline University does. The award is given to at least two undergraduate students each year.
Nomination and selection criteria for students
Undergraduate student nominees must be a junior or senior with a minimum of 90 credits. Past Wesley Award recipients cannot be nominated.
Nomination criteria are:
- Students may be nominated by a Hamline faculty member, a staff member, or a fellow student.
- Students may nominate themselves.
- All student nominations, including self-nominations, require a copy of the nominee's resume and a letter of support from their nominator. Self-nominees should write a letter to the Wesley Award review committee in support of their application and also provide a letter of support from a member of the Hamline community (faculty, staff, fellow student, or alumni).
- The nominee must demonstrate leadership and service in the spirit of the words of John Wesley and have had a positive impact on the Hamline community.
- Students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing (as verified by the Dean of Students Office).
- The nominee’s social media presence must not be inconsistent with the picture conveyed in the nomination.
Nominators, please do not submit more than one nominee per nomination form. Multiple nominees for single awards will not be considered. Wesley Award submissions may only have one nominee and one nominator per nomination form. Please email your letter of support to an-studentaffairs@hamline.edu by February 12, 2024.

John Wesley Trustee Award for Faculty and Staff
In 2001, the Board of Trustees established the John Wesley Trustee Award for Faculty and Staff. This award was endowed by Robb and Jackie Prince in 2002. The award honors a faculty or staff member who consistently demonstrates the university’s core values of high-quality and rigorous academics, a commitment to making the world a better place, and a focus on ethics, civility, and social justice. The award also recognizes individuals whose actions contribute to student centeredness, diversity, innovation, and transformation.
Nomination and selection criteria
Faculty and staff are eligible if they have been employed with Hamline University for five or more years.
The nomination criteria are:
- Faculty and staff may be nominated by a Hamline faculty member, a staff member, or a student.
- All nominations require a letter of support from their nominator. The letter should be sent to the Wesley Award review committee in support of their nominee. Please send your letter of support to an-studentaffairs@hamline.edu no later than February 12, 2024.
- The nominee must demonstrate leadership and service in the spirit of the words of John Wesley, and have had a positive impact on the Hamline community.
