Martinez-Vaz, Students Present at ASBMB Annual Meeting

Biology and Biochemistry Professor Betsy Martinez-Vaz, Anna Schultz '23, Lauryn Magwaro '23 and Hailee Aro '24 recently presented their research at Annual Meeting of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) in Seattle, WA. Anna Schultz received an award for her presentation at the ASBMB National Undergraduate Poster Competition. Research in Professor Martinez- Vaz's laboratory focus on the identification and molecular characterization of bacteria capable of degrading Metformin, the most commonly prescribed type II diabetes drugs in the world.  Part of the work presented by the students was supported by the Hamline Summer Collaborative Research Program
