Life often leads to bumps in the road and outside help can be a great way to help navigate over the bumps. Hamline University offers two Employee Assistance Programs to our employees. This website will help you navigate which program may be best for you. Use of the Employee Assistance Programs is 100% confidential and available 24/7.
Unum EAP: Work/life balance

The following resources are available to all employees of Hamline University:
- Licensed professional counselors. Counselors can help you with stress, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, divorce, job stress, family and/or parenting problems, anger, grief, and more.
- Free counseling sessions. Three free in-person sessions and unlimited online and phone support.
- Financial advisor support. Get help with financial planning, debt, foreclosure, and more.
- Child care and elderly care. Find referrals and support for your loved ones.
- Work/life balance. Specialists can help you find resources in your community and help you get answers on almost any topic. Legal questions, creating wills, identify theft, real estate planning, professional development, self care, and more.
- Medical bill saver. Experienced negotiators can assist you in lowering your medical and dental bills. Using fee benchmarking databases to help reduce non-covered medical or dental bills that exceed $400 (regardless of insurance or benefit status). They will contact doctors, dentists, hospitals and other providers on the employee’s behalf to negotiate discounts on the balance due and/or create payment plans.
- Online assistance. Unum's website gives access to resources including webinars, courses, online assistance, COVID-19 resources, and more.

The following resources are available to employees currently enrolled in Hamline's medical plan:
- Master’s level specialists. Specialists can help you find answers and tackle tough issues.
- Free counseling sessions. Five free sessions per issue, per year.
- Legal consultation. Thirty minute legal consultation at no cost (in person or over the phone). If you decide to hire an attorney, you’ll get a 25% discount. This can be used for will preparation, child support, custody issues, divorce, adoption, and more.
- Financial advisor support. Get help with financial planning, debt, foreclosure, and more.
- Child care and elderly care. Find referrals and support for your loved ones.
- Community resources. Medica Optum can connect you to resources near you.
- Online resource. Optum's Live and Work Well website gives access to a large collection of interactive resources and information that can help you with the challenges of work and daily life. Enter the access code MEDICA when you visit the site.
- Dependency issues. Get help for addiction issues like tobacco, alcohol, drugs, gambling, and more.
- Education and career: Receive education resources and career consulting.
